HSAS: Spanish Honors Society

Do you love the Spanish language and culture and also enjoy helping out the community? If you do, the HSAS Spanish Honor Society is the place for you! Although there are specific qualifications to be met in order to be inducted as an official member, anyone is welcome to join beginning their sophomore year. To be inducted, a student must complete at least 30 hours of community service, have a grade of at least 90 in Spanish classes, and maintain an overall average of at least 85. There is also a eight dollar fee for new members and five dollar fee for returning members. An induction ceremony is held towards the end of the school year. During the school year, all the real fun and community service takes place. The Spanish Honor Society does at least one group community service project a year, such as helping out in a local soup kitchen. It also organizes various fiestas for Hispanic holidays. During Hispanic Heritage month, it is custom for the SHS to organize a fiesta with foods from various latin countries for the HSAS community to enjoy free of charge.
