Tiananmen Square Presentation in the Lovinger Theater

On Tuesday, May 28, students and staff from selected classes were privileged to hear a presentation from Zhou Fengsuo and Rose Tang, both of whom, as college students, took part in the 1989 protest in Tiananmen Square. Among the twenty-two organizers of the protest, Mr. Zhou at one time was the fifth most wanted man in China. He was arrested and jailed until he was released as a result of international pressure. Ms. Tang, among the last protesters to leave the square, crawled over a tank to escape. Both spoke movingly about the power of young people to stand up for their beliefs. Mr. Zhou now runs an organization dedicated to raising awareness of human rights violations and to helping political prisoners and their families. Ms. Tang works as a journalist, musician, writer, and social justice activist.
