Ranked as a top 15 team in the city last season, the Varsity Boys’ Baseball team is hungry for revenge. Led by veteran coach Peter Nizzari and seniors Elijah Slarskey, Will Brody, and Darwin Bryen, the team is armed with the experience to make a deep run into this year’s playoffs.
Ace of the staff Andrew Smith is off to a hot start, leading the league in strikeouts after 5 games. Sophomore sluggers Daniel Schneiderman and Ryan Harris have reached base in every game thus far, with Harris’ double in this week’s game against Fannie Lou driving in 3 runs. In the same game, Brody laced an inside-the-park homerun, and Bryen came through with two triples en route to an 11-1 win.
The battery of Smith on the mound and Slarskey behind the plate has been lethal, producing 30 strikeouts over the course of 2 wins: 12-2, 11-1, and 16-2. The Senators take the field at home Monday against Longwood Prep before they visit them on the road in the last game before Spring Break. Let’s Go, Senators!
