The HSAS Boys and Girls Cross Country teams have been training hard and getting their seasons off to a fantastic start! Both teams have already competed in two meets, with plenty of strong performances along the way.
On the Boys side, the Senators competed in Bronx Grand Prix #1 and #2 on September 15th and 22nd. Grand Prix #1 featured our Varsity runners, with Senior Declan Olds leading the way with an impressive 5K time of 19:19. Sophomore Robert Tarbutton also had a terrific race, breaking the 20-minute mark with a time of 19:40.
Grand Prix #2 was the debut for many of our freshmen runners, who competed in the 1.5K race. Freshman Oliver Petit led the way for HSAS with an excellent time of 11:51. It is great to see our younger runners getting their first taste of competition!
Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, the prestigious Bowdoin Park Classic was postponed this weekend. The boys will get right back to racing on Saturday, October 3rd, for the Marty Lewis Invitational.
On the Girls side, Amelia Lo Cascio led the way for the Senators in the Grand Prix #1 5K, followed closely by Keira Elinson and Rose Barberot. The girls will be back in the woods of Van Cortlandt Park on Tuesday, September 29th, and then return on Saturday, October 3rd, for the Marty Lewis Invitational.
The season is just getting started, and our runners are already showing tremendous effort and determination. We hope to see plenty of Senator’s fans out at Van Cortlandt Park this Saturday to cheer on our teams. The meet kicks off with Freshman Girls at 9:15am, followed by Freshman Boys at 9:30, and concludes with the Varsity Girls and Boys races at 10:15am and 10:45am respectively.
