Coming off a winning season, the Varsity Girls’ softball team kicked off the 2023 season with a strong victory against Bronx School Law, Government, and Justice. HSAS Senators scored 26 runs on 20 hits. From the start, HSAS looked sharp and focused, determined to make an early statement. They quickly put pressure on the Lady Jaguars, scoring multiple runs in the first few innings.

Despite some pushback from the Lady Jaguars, who put some runs on the board, HSAS continued to dominate the game offensively.

·         Leading the way was freshman Mary Greene who, in her first varsity game, had a three-hit, 7 RBI outing.

·         Magdalena Martinez, senior, put in a solid performance pitching for the Senators, with five strikeouts.

·         Defensively, dynamite duo Nathalia Dominguez and Jordyn Sickle, both juniors, dominated. Sickle had a stellar performance with a double play.

·         Behind home plate, Alexandra Niatsetskyla, a sophomore, commanded the field in her debut game as a catcher.

The Senators hitting was impressive, but their ability to play solid defense and limit the Lady Jaguars’ scoring opportunities was equally notable. This win will undoubtedly boost HSAS’s confidence as they progress in the season. With a winning track record and a team full of talented players, we will be a force to be reckoned with on the softball field!
